My mother, 89, with Parkinsons, many strokes and dementia has been in a nursing home for over 2 years. She is now hallucinating and delusional. She recently acquired a (phantom) cat and at supper a few days ago she cut up some chicken and went to put it down for "the cat". Of course over she went, wheelchair and all ... 10 stitches to close a gash in her arm and a dressing where she whacked her chin.

She's also very concerned that when my father comes to stay with her the staff won't know he's her husband ... he passed away 16 years ago. Most of what I've read recommends just agreeing, but in more lucid moments my mother is well aware that dad has passed and there is no cat.

She's being tested to see if she has a UTI that may be causing it. In the meantime I've bought her two stuffed plush animals, a kitten and a pig, and they seem to give her a lot of comfort.
