Never! The shot that is given does not cover all strains of flu and they have no idea what strains will be going around when. Do your research on the flu shots affecting older people.
I do not do flu shots. I take care of my immune system. If you have a healthy, well-functioning immune system, you do not need these, some of which have toxic ingredients and can have their own side effects, one of which can be death. It would behoove us all to actually read the vaccine inserts that contain the side effects, some of which are more common than one might think. Eat real food, ditch packaged garbage non-food and you will be pleasantly surprised at how resilient you are and how resistant to passing bugs. I used to catch everything. Now I am healthier than I have been most of my life.
Turns out that the 2012/13 flu shot was less than 9% effective in people 65 and older, and not very protective of younger individuals either. The CDC can't figure out why. All the scientific community can say is "we need to develop a better flu vaccine." With those statistics, I'm wondering how many people in nursing homes were affected...sad. And that sounds like a pretty lame response from the "scientific community." I realize an honest explanation won't change anything, but where's the accountability factor from these professionals? Enough said.

Our pcp, who always gave out the flu shot Nov/Dec, was told to start giving out the shot in Sept. Reluctantly, she did. Now more than the usual amount of patients have been seen for the flu and the office is backed up because the Dr. herself was out with the flu for 2 wks. Mother in-law, 86, my disabled husband, 59 with compromised immune system, 31 yr. old son with Cystic Fibrosis, myself, healthy and working full time: all but myself got the flu shot and ALL got the flu - brutal! Stopped getting the flu shot over 5 years ago and haven't had the flu 'til this year; other family members always got the flu shot and never had the flu.
I got the flu shot about two months ago and I have had the worst flu that I have ever had - to the point where I was ready to go to the hospital. Don't think I will ever get another!
