As a male caretaker I was so far behind what a typical woman could do & understand about mothers. Some Medicaid providers that are "for profit" will not give you enough services. They simply keep the money for themselves leaving you struggling. I had to drop my first Medicaid service provider & now Mom goes to Adult Day Care with transportation five days a week with lunch meals & one shower on-site, a week. I'm going to schedule the time for one cleaning a week when Mom is home at her home. If you don't ask they won't offer. What a difference. They rescued me from a mental collapse! I need to start a business that would be simple, have a reliable income, even if it is small & fit into Mom's visits to Adult Day Care, especially the Transportation pick up & drop off from 20 miles away. I'd like to work from home, but that's not always available. She needs financial help to pay for Medicare Dental services. You can't get Medicaid to pay for your dentist if you have Medicare Insurance. Medicaid will only allow ALL the elderly persons teeth pulled out top & bottom--often on the same day--& one set of dentures for that year. That's seems draconian & brutal, like missionary dentists who are forced to do that in a Third World Countries, because of difficult land access to the patients. For her comfort I'll find a way to pay for the Medicare co-pays so they can remake her "partial dentures" after they pull out the bad teeth. While I was care-taking my sister dying of cancer, Mom didn't see a dentist & refused to go when we asked. I didn't know that for a dementia personality "No" is the automatic response for almost any question. Family care-taking is no walk in the park, but then is anything worth doing easy?
