There is mixed news on statins. They also protect the brain from memory loss. The statins have also been said to cause memory loss. Statins are prescribed to reduce cholesterol thus reducing the likelihood of heart attack and stroke. Strokes we all know can cause devastating memory loss. The risk needs to be evaluated with the benefit. It is definitely not one answer that will suit everybody.

Medical research is usually looked at with a question mark by other scientists. Historically results have gone back and forth. What causes this, who knows? Researchers will find something is good or bad, then on down the road others will get results totally different. Strange thing is that often results are interpreted with a slant that involves the politics and fads of the day.

Thank you so much for this insight.

I have often read attention-getting headlines only to conclude "that is a crazy conclusion to draw from this study!" Even if the article itself is informative, the intent of the headline is to attract readers, not to inform us.

I've run across two articles just in the last week about commonly prescribed meds that appear to have a relatioship with later development of Alzheimers--one about statin drugs (which I believe, as I had memory issues with one of these and know of several other people who have) and one on the website Drugs today that links use of common antidepressants with later development of AD. Will forward the links if requested.
