My sig other has glaucoma and was on the eye therapy drop to keep the eyes from getting worse. Not long ago he had some type of laser surgery that helped and he is now off the drops.

Even animals get glaucoma. My 16 year old cat was recently diagnosed with this eye issue and eye drops were recommended for him. Getting the drops in is another story :0

Globetrotter50 ~ I am on the eye drops that are used for my condition. The problem I seem to be having, is that I have VERY thick corneas, and the medication may not be all getting in there. I've told my present eye doctor about all my illnesses and medications. He said that nothing is related to the eye problem, and none of the medications will interact with each other. The doctor is very, very good, and I'm much more comfortable with him, then I was with the first doctor I saw, that never told me I had glaucoma.
My doctor also did do the five tests mentioned in this article . . .

I can't speak to any specifics because I'm not a doc and everyone is different, however, claiming no one gets better if they get glaucoma is not true. I'm a professional caregiver and I have cared for people who were diagnoised with glaucoma and after some treatment, their sight improved. Again, everyone is different but claiming some disease and/or illiness ALWAYS gets worse and/or cannot be improved just because that doc or person never personally knew about it, dose not make it true. The usual claim by focs who are proven wrong is for them to claim that the recover never actually had whatever it was - without examing the person. In fact, everything we take for granted can be fixed and/or corrected were claimed to be terminal and/or unrecoverable in the past. Just as there are treatments that actually work for some ALS and Parkensons, the vast majority of doctors do not keep track of new and comming treatment so we get the Robin Williams who give up and/or kill themselves.
If you have a problem it is YOUR responsibility to do the research and keep track. That doc isn't paid to di it so they don't and when they believe a condition can never change it becomes a self fulfilling prophey. Never forget that everyone us NOT exactly alike.

Gramma, are you on any medication or have any health conditions that have a negative impact on your eye health? If so, controlling these factors will also help a little.

PCVS~The doctor I am presently with is great, it's the prior doctor that wasn't. Like cwillie said, the drops are to maintain my sight, keep it from getting worse. Besides the glaucoma, he stated that pressure in my eyes is quite high. We're just monitoring every three months at this point. Like cwillie also said, there is no cure for glaucoma.

My numbers (the guideline they use to test for glaucoma) aren't that high, right now. So right now, I'm glad I found this doctor, he is definitely on top of this. If there is anything else, anyone can think of, please let me know. Thank you for all your input.

The drops will be to maintain what vision you have and prevent further damage, there is no cure for the sight you have already lost. I'm not too sure about the numbers, I assume no change is a good thing or he would be examining different treatment options. Next time you go to the doc have a list of questions ready for him and ask!

Gramma, get another doctor but first ask, "are the drops supposed to help or merely keep the glaucoma from worsening?

Four years ago I went to an eye doctor, because my reading glasses weren't strong enough anymore. I wasn't happy with the run around they gave me, but did eventually get the correct glasses.

Here I am, (four years later) I found a new doctor, that I love! He asked me to get my file from the previous doctor. When I brought it to him, he asked me what I was doing for my glaucoma? I told him I don't have glaucoma ... He said that the previous doctor diagnosed me with it four years prior. They never said a word to me, when I went to these doctors. You can imagine my surprise! There were also other issues involving the nerve behind my eyes.

I'm now using drops at night in both eyes for the past year, with no improvement. He also told me I had very thick corneas. I'm wondering if the thickness of my corneas are preventing the drops to get to the problem? I'm also curious about how long can you have glaucoma, before I can't see?

My doctor keeps repeating several tests every three months, and he says the numbers aren't changing.

This has really thrown me for a loop ... I don't know what to think about my situation. Any information would be helpful. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
