I am an AARP tax aide we are free we don't charge for any taxes being done at our site . You don't have to belong to AARP to get your taxes done at the site. If you have only social security its not taxable for federal only if you work can you get money back if they held it out. For our site in Clinton Iowa we don't have an age requirement we do from 16 yrs old and up. We don't have a requirement for wages.

Some sites are doing it virtual where you send the information in and then they will do them and send you back the information.

There is also VITA sites too they do taxes just like AARP but they have a wage limit to do taxes. Also the IRS has programs that will help you file your taxes too by going onto IRS.GOV.

Like I said before AARP Tax Aide is a free site they will e-file your federal and state free.

I have done taxes for my dear friend for the last 6-7 years, but in the last year, she had a major stroke and cannot remember some things and she asked me to do her taxes again this year. I made an appt. with AARP at PENN SOUTH SENIOR CENTER in NYC,. which was confirmed twice by return phone call. After taking 2 buses to the location and arriving early, they told me bluntly there was no appt., they could not do my taxes, and to come back another time. Two buses back home and a waste of hours. Their website specifies that appointments are required. No help there.

Jillios-I am not aware of any programs that are set up to come to your parent's home and prepare taxes there for free. Check with your local Area Agency of Aging to see if they know of any volunteers.

My Mother usually uses AARP tax preparation at the local library. This year she is unable to get there. Is there anyone that comes to the house for low income seniors who are homebound.
