I see this thread is 2 years ago. But I hope someone can help me find a dentist (in NYC, preferably in Manhattan) who's old enough that he has been making, and still is making, TONS OF DENTURES! :) I have a full upper and partial lower. I need a very experienced dentist to save my lower bridge so I can have a partial again, instead of a full lower denture which, I hear from friends, is very troublesome. It's been difficult to find a dentist dedicated to dentures simply because nowadays they all focus on cosmetic and implants, of course that's where the money is haha!
I'm a 92 year old lady and do EVERYTHING myself, even manipulating my shower head and faucet so I get a stronger flow among other things, lol!
I anticipate my big thanks for any help. :o) Adela
This may seem obvious to dental professionals yet I did not know that continued rubbing of my denture against a canker sore prevented the canker sore from healing. My dentist made an adjustment to the denture when he heard my complaint of pain but he didn't tell me the canker sore was caused by the denture rubbing when i chew. My MD flet canker sore is caused by herpes simplex 1. this didn't make sense to me yet he gave me a prescription for Valtrex which is thought to maybe help healing of canker sore. He gave me a referral to a Dental Surgeon who told me to get the remaining two teeth on my lower gum extracted but he did not say the canker sore was caused by the denture rubbing. None said the continued rubbing would prevent the canker sore from healing. I realized the canker sore was not healing because of the continued rubbing when my dentist told me to eat without the dentures but still he didn't tell me the continued rubbing was the reason the canker sore did not heal. I was getting one canker sore after another for five months! the last canker sore was bothering me for seven weeks until i learned that continued rubbing of the sore by the denture was the problem. I hope others can learn from this post. I hope dental professionals be specific when speaking with lay people about canker sore and denture.
If I do not put my dentures upper in when I eat can I do damage to my upper gums I have done this a lot and lately my upper lip is swollen and it seems my upper gums have become misshaped. HELP
Annie63, my advice is to get a second opinion, perhaps you could try out the services of the nearest dental school. At $10K per year I think your dentist must be using gold utensils, or maybe he just wants to retire early?
I have been told to maintain my teeth it will cost $2500 per quarter for periodontal cleaning so I am considering removal and dentures, does anyone have any advice?
My father inlaw has dentures, but has the most foul smell that comes from his mouth, that I can barely stand to be cooped up in the car with him, or in the same room. I believe he uses the dental soak at night, but I have come to believe that's all. No rinsing his mouth out with mouthwash or taking a soft toothbrush to clean his tongue. I'm just the daughter in law, shouldn't his family tell him this, instead of me? I can't be the only one that notices!
Have any of you looked into StabilDent denture stabilizers? They've had a lot of positive results, and are really cost-effective and much simpler than implants. You should check it out! )
Thank you for validating my situation. THIS is me and I tried so hard to explain this to my dentist. Sadly, she would not take me seriously and thought I was just a complainer. She also made a comment to people that expect too much. Now I have no care at all. The pain, not being able to eat without pain, and breaking food up because I cannot bite......they just don't fit and really didn't from the very beginning. Thanks again for helping me understand and see that I am not losing my mind. Wish me luck as far as a solution. Still waiting for my "Golden Years".
This is an excellent article about maintaining dentures. Another reason for improperly-fitting dentures results from hospitalization which often leads to prolonged periods in bed and rapid weight loss. When a patient loses weight (sometimes up to 20 pounds in 1-2 months) due to illness, their bone tissues shrink accordingly but the denture does not fit snugly around the bone ridges anymore. Dentures that become loose can cause irritation, discomfort, pain and possible infection. It's important for caregivers to routinely examine the mouth for any sore spots. As a rule of thumb, any lesions in the mouth that do not heal for two weeks or result from persistent bleeding, should be addressed with a dentist. Also keep in mind that access to mobile dental services, such as house call denture services and mobile dental cleaning by dental hygienists, are increasingly becoming more availably by various dental practices, especially for seniors in nursing homes, hospitals and private residences.
Different doctors have several thoughts on dentures, but one thing is common with all. If no proper care is taken of dentures, you are sure to face problems!
interesting topic, sometimes I find I have to help take the dentures out and this can be difficult... been using a mouth prop called the bedishield of late which has been helpful
4 months ago I had a swollen gum on the right back jaw it was very painful then one came up on the other side had new dentures made and now my mouthhurts to the point of tears. It's in the bottom gum not the teeth so what do you suggest?
When several teeth are lost and the damage is so severe that they cannot be restored satisfactorily independent of other teeth, suggest full mouth rehabilitation using implants as the only solution.
My dentist recommended a multivitamin called OnePro Diet because I have dentures. Has anyone tried it? Further, I was told it has Health Canada approval.
Proper denture care is important for both the health of your dentures and mouth. No matter what your age, you can keep your teeth and gums healthy by brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily and seeing your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and checkups. I found this post helpful. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for sharing! My mom just got dentures in Hamilton at paramountdentistry and she was nervous and embarrassed about it. I bet lots of people have dentures and implants so I told her there was nothing to be embarrassed about. After that many years of being alive your mouth has taken a beating!
Dentists have solution for all teeth problems such as braces for uneven teeth. There are many types of braces such as metal braces, colored braces, invisible braces or lingual braces. I think lingual braces are best as these braces are not visible to anyone because they are applied at the back side of the teeth.
yes my mother is in a senior home she is 82 years of age at this point of time she is in need of top and bottom dentures is there any programs that can help her get dentures because the finances she has want allow her to get dentures
You may want to check out some of the articles on teethcenter website. I have found them very helpful. I am trying to learn as much as I can on the web. My grandkids are always telling me that I need to stay with it (as they say). I must admit, they are right, there is alot of info on the internet.
