Yikes, some of those items are really expensive. As for social interaction tools, my parents who still independently in their own home would have a difficult time using those social interaction tools due to poor eyesight. Plus one would need to find a 12 year old to show us how to use those things :P

Just my opinion, if an elder is in need of such devices, sounds like it is time to look into a retirement village for that person. Such communities would offer person to person interaction without using some social device... but the security of knowing they are safe in their apartment/condo.

If the elderly person lives alone and is worried about a sudden medical emergency, look at a subscription to myimportantinformation. This service allows the senior (or, more likely, a caregiver) to enter the information the first responders need immediately in an emergency. The senior gets a window sticker to alert first responders, a wallet card, and two refrigerator cards. The cards have a website and code so first responders -- or friends. neighbors, or ER staff -- can quickly see the information. Its only $30/year. The wallet card gives the same protection when the senior is away from home.
