In the state of Virginia Medicaid pays for Adult Day Care if you're qualified. There is also a new program called dual eligibility or the CCC (commonwealth coordinated care program) which portions of Medicaid and medicare cover portions of care.

Yes they do pay for adult daycare. Massachusetts Medicaid pays. Also SCO or Senior Care Options also pay. There is a MC & MH program also merged together called PACE - (Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. I hope this helps

Anne, I only wish that my state covered the services that you mentioned such as Adult Day Care, Personal Care Services, and other services. Unfortunately, I live in a state where the Governor refused to expand services and cut back on services that were already in place! The taxes here are low ( Georgia), so I can't complain.

Sorry to correct you, but I'm a health care consultant, and have been working with client agencies in New Mexico to expand Medicaid funded PCS and ADC here in NM. And, I believe other states have expanded Medicaid services in a similar way. Please check www.hsd.state.nm.us for more info (go to "providers," then "managed care", and check your own state.

With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicaid expansion in many states, there are a number of states where Medicaid now covers services such as Adult Day Care, Personal Care Services and other Agency Based Community Benefits. Check your state's Health or Health & Human Services' Department.

I live in the state of Texas and my grandpa's medicaid pays up to 5 days of his adult daycare. I was blessed to find an adult daycare where they accepted medicaid most of the daycares I've contacted did not want to accept neither medicaid or medicare.

Also, my grandpa's medicare does not cover daycare expenses, it only covers home health care visits and doctor's appointments.

My grandpa who has dementia attends adult day care and his Medicaid does pay for all his daycare expenses. His medicaid covers up to 5 weekdays of daycare. The daycare only charges the days he actually attends. I called several daycare centers and most of them do not accept Medicaid, they prefer private pay until I called the one in my area who does. So call around :-)

Sorry, Jeanne. I actually have never heard of CCSP Medicaid Waiver, but those friends of mine who work at the local healthcare facilities, i.e., Emory University Hospital and Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta may have heard of it.....probably. There's so much out there......

N1K2R3, I had never heard of it in my state, either -- why would I? -- until my husband's case worker recommended it.

In your state it is called Georgia Community Care Services Program (CCSP) Medicaid Waiver, and the first thing on the list of what is covered is Adult Day Health Care.

I am not surprised that you don't know about this.

Well Teddy! Can you get someone in there to help you? Can you use the phone? Help is out there. You just have to find it (the hard part).

Never heard of it. Perhaps it's available in MN, but not some of the other states.

My husband attended an adult day health program for about 4 years, paid for under Elderly Waiver (a Medicaid program to help individuals stay at home and out of the more-expensive option of nursing homes). I wonder if this varies by state?

Medicare has a newer program "PACE" that is an inclusive model of day and health services for avoiding NH admits n costs. Intended as a long term care not a crisis service. Many pro's n cons, NC accepts dual eligibles (MCare N MCaid). Think that is a convention of the program, I think universal across the us where these programs r in place. Never assume day care programs can't be provided. Many sources of access-chk w area aging + local public social services to find resources for your area.

In the state of Illinois, for example, their is a program called the Community Care Program, that actually offers Adult Day Care services free for the low income. Check it out with the Illinois Department on Aging.

Medicaid will cover Adult Day in many states,Sometimes the Adult Day has to be a Medical Model. Some Adult day programs are only a Social Model, similar to a Senior Center. The best way to find out if your state is one, is to connect with your local Area Agency on Aging. If it is not covered, they can often help you with finding an alternative. Possibly they would have grants available to help, or would know of agencies that might offer a grant or sponsor a person to go to Adult Day. Many Adult Day programs also offer a sliding scale for folks who have limited resources. Most states like the idea of Adult Day programs, as it is much more costly to the State if a person has to move to a Nursing Home because families cannot afford to have a loved one in a safe place while they are working. It is also a great opportunity for folks to have socialization.

It depends on the state.

There are three types of adult day care:
1. Adult day social care provides social activities, meals, recreation, and some health-related services.
2. Adult day health care offers more intensive health, therapeutic, and social services for individuals with severe medical problems and for those at risk of nursing home care.
3. Alzheimer’s specific adult day care provides social and health services only to persons with Alzheimer’s or related dementia.
