FF, the over 65 shot is the high dose, I imagine. At Mom's geriatrician practice they only have the high dose vaccine.

gladimhere, I agree, I wish there were dates on these articles, too. I remember last year the nurse asked if I wanted the over 65 flu vaccine, and I said no. Don't know if that was the same as in the article, maybe not.

I tend to shy away from anything new until it has been on the market for many years... I understand flu vaccine is *new* every flu season, for the higher dose vaccine is still new on the market.

In fact, I still use my tried and true antihistamine was a first generation made antihistamine from 50 some years ago... enough time to check for serious side-effects :)

Got my Fluzone shot today, regular strength, quadrivalent. Arm was warm and a bit sore, so I took one tri-buffered aspirin. AOK this evening.

My MIL got Fluzone high dose yesterday. She is fine today.

IF you have a health immune system, you don't need a quadruple dose.
IF you have a depleted immune system, the shot has a good chance of making you ill. NOTE patients on immune suppressing drugs don't get the shot.
Please don't be led to believe that a quadruple shot will help someone with marginal health.

Sarah, that is my thought. Last year because of the shortage of vaccine we were able to get the regular flu shot. There was not high dose available when she got it. Next year it will be the standard vaccine.

The very same thing happened to my 91 year old Mother after getting the stronger flu shot yesterday! Her arm is also inflamed and warm. Perhaps patients should request regular flu shots!

She was awake only twelve hours out of the last 48. But she is up now.

I wish there were dates on all of these articles. Mom had the high dose vaccine yesterday. Today she just slept nearly all day; up from about 1:30 then back to bed about 4:30. I have never seen her this tired! Called the doctor and the extreme fatigue is a side effect but not very often. Naturally, this would happen to my Mom. The doc said the fatigue will last for about a day. Hopefully, tomorrow she is back to HER normal. Anybody else have a similar experience?
