My grandmother was initially sent to a rehab facility because she burned her leg December 2017, she also has alzheimers. She was then moved to the nursing home side of the facility due to alzheimers and further cognitive decline. She was recentlly diagnosed with cancer and the nursing home Dr put in orders for hospice care.
My question is once a resident has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, does medicare then pay for the nursing home costs if she is a self pay resident? Due to her age 85 and health, chemo and surgery are not realistic options for her. We are now looking at managing her pain. Does medicare pay for nursing home cost for terminally ill patients?
My mom was in a rehab facility one month ago. When Medicare stop covering her rehab costs. She was transferred to the nursing home side of the facility as a hospice patient. Ate her nursing home costs covered under medicare?
Can hospice Medicare benefits be sought after a patient passes away who did not know that he was entitled to benefits? In other words, hospice care was paid, out of pocket.
This is great information to know before switching to medicare. I didn't know that they only helped pay for medication to help treat the symptoms rather than the issue itself. This is something that will effect my decision to get it for sure. I also want to make sure my co pay for urgent care or hospital visits is fairly low.
margrx, my husband is now on hospice care. I don't know what the per diem is -- the hospice provider is billing Medicare directly and I do not see the bills.

•Hospice aide and homemaker services ???
You can report abuse or neglect of a patient under hospice care the same way you would any elder abuse.
