I am a widow and was given a partial of my husband's disability social security when he passed. Am I also entitled to my own social security since I worked all my life? And if not, why not? I paid into and am still working and paying into it. I will have to work until I die just to make ends meet. Yes, mine is lower than his portion would be for me but it seems I read on this post that you should be able to get your own as well - and I am over 65 if this helps.

Are you a citizen? If you live in a country you should at least try to learn that country's language English. I realize your Mother mayhave been too old to learn English. Is she a citizen? If you get caregiver assistance you are lucky. I suppose you could ask for an interpreter but that isn't going to help much. How about assisted living or a NH? If you were in Mexico you likely would get no help and if no citizen you might get jail. Best of Luck I know it is rough but it is rough for everyone. You might try the area agency on aging in your area.

what about the Windfall act no employers discusses with you. You pay into both programs you work for and then they (gov) takes the biggest part 2/3 of your social security but congressmen& officials can draw all kinds of pensions what is fair about that?
