I live in a rural community. The cheapest AL I found for mother is $5200 monthly for a one bedroom and that doesn't include incontinence products, personal items like toilet paper, soap, etc or even phone or cable. When she moves to the memory care unit the price will rise to $7100. Nevertheless it beats the $14,000 monthly for a shared room in the local nursing homes
Would be nice to find a place in the Chicago area, specifically near Evanston IL, where living together is possible with one spouse more disabled by Alzheimers or Parkinsons.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR LISTING APPROXIMATE COST. MY HUSBAND AND I NEED A PLACE WE DON'T HAVE TO CLEAN, CUT GRASS AND OCCASIONAL RIDE TO DR'S.....WE CAN DO BASIC FOR OURSELF. JUST HARD TO STAND FOR TOO LONG.
Help. We are in precisely this situation with our parents. They are in a facility which my mother loves and is "plugged in" to and my dad is just not happy about being anywhere - so he is irascible and causing a problem in the general population. We have been asked to move them because of him - and his dementia is on the rise - both need care (my mother is physically compromised and her speech is also affected as the result of a severe stroke 12 years ago - however, she is actually more mentally competent than my dad who is diabetic, needs help with meds to stay as alert as possible and is showing increased signs of dementia). So they are at different levels - and we need to move them to a place that can handle him, but has opportunities for my mom to be social. We are at a loss. Looking for someplace between Dutchess County NY and Boston (between where my brother and I live). Any help, guidance, direction is greatly appreciated.
