I think that you were right to make the report to the state. If many families were complaining, you know that the administrator had to be aware. And, what is the point in moving the CNA to another floor? So other vulnerable patients can be exposed to him?

Hi Carol,
Excellent review of what to do and what not to do. As a private investigator in Ca. I strongly suggest confirming background checks on caregivers as we have found there is a shockingly high percentage of assisted living facilities and home placement services that do NOT conduct background checks on their caregivers! I was caregiver for my mother who had Alzheimers in her final years but used a few agencies to place a daytime caregiver. I checked and found two caregivers had criminal backgrounds and one had been institutionalized on and off for a mental disorder! You are correct in being overly sensitized for good reason but as you have conveyed, it is best to go through the proper channels. We assist families that are not local to their loved ones by conducting unnannouced visits to facilites to check on their family member's condition and caregiver conduct and also offer background check services. The Ombudsman is a free source however the element of surprise may not be there giving the agency time to clean up their act before visitation. Best wishes and thanks for writing this article
