I was just diagnosed with mild diabetic retinopathy due to having diabetes type 1 for 38 yrs. Why does it seem their is nothing can be done until your in the last stage of eye disease? Except keeping, good b/s, cholesterol n b/p in control to keep it from progression fast. I have good cholesterol n b/p n working on my b/s for it did creep up on me these last few months due to stress-eating n care-giving. Now, that I have controlled my stress with having respite breaks, I should be able to get back on track with my health. However, I will always now have diabetic retinopathy n hopefully it will stay in the 'mild stage' for yrs for I don't think I could handle going blind.

Great write up! All diabetics religiously check their blood sugars. Most of them get their heart and kidney functions tested regularly too! But somehow the eye is forgotten more often than not. Greater awareness is the need of the day
