Total hip replacement is a treatment option for people with late-stage degenerative hip disease or in some cases, for broken, fractured or arthritic hips. Followed by rehabilitation, hip replacement can relieve pain and restore range of motion and function of the hip joint. During a total hip replacement surgery, the diseased hip is removed and replaced with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis.
