Are there any companies or organizations that will help family defray the cost of expensive medications?

Thank you for all your answers. We have found a few organizations that would help with the meds but the funding for the specific med has been exhausted. We will keep trying.

I agree with the above poster who suggested that you talk to the medication manufacturer. In the past I've needed assistance with meds and I qualified for financial assistance through the manufacturer.

Unfortunately the pharma co's will usually only give deals to those who have **no** insurance. If you have a high-deductible policy which leaves you pay $12, 000 before it pays a cent, big pharma doesn't care. This is my experience anyhow. Maybe your pleas will get better result--please share what happens if you do get a deal.

You can also check with Walmart. Many of their pharmacists are very knowledgeable and helpful or can give you some suggestions.

It's so ridiculous to have to jump through hoops to get affordable prescriptions, but it can be done. LIke dilofthedevil said, you can contact the company directly, or your doctor's office might be able to assist too.
I have had good results--not with cancer medication--but a few times, I have been prescribed meds that were $$$$, even with insurance. My doctors both were very helpful. In one case, the doc just gave me free samples for a year, until my insurance covered it 100%. And the other doctor spoke to his pharmaceutical rep, who provided a way for me to get the meds at an affordable price.

Try contacting the manufacturer of the drug(s) and explain your MIL's situation to them. All big Pharma companies have programs in place to help offset costs of their expensive drugs.
