I live with my 96 year old mom and i have 2 sisters that help me take care of her when i work. My brother only comes once a month. lately they are telling me that i should be saving all of my moms ssi check so they wont have to help with funeral expenses. I tell them that she has hospital and medical bills to pay so i wouldnt be able to do that. they refuse to help me financially in time of need. i feel very stressed out and dont know what to do.

If Mom has too much money to qualify for Medicaid, doesn't she have enough to pay for her own funeral? Is there a life insurance policy to use for this? Some other asset that could be sold and used for this purpose?

Does your mother need to be on Medicaid?

You continue to do exactly what you've been doing: the right thing.

Cremation is becoming more and more popular. It's certainly my ultimate plan for myself. I cremated my husband. In his case, I only buried his ashes because his family had a 100-year-old plot; his mother, father and son were buried there among others. I visited his grave once -- to see if the marker had been installed.

Cremation can cost as little as $2000. If your other two siblings won't help? Continue to do the right thing and beg/borrow/steal whatever it takes. Scatter her ashes in a favorite place of hers; if her husband is buried, scatter them on his grave.

She won't be there. Her soul will depart with her last breath and send her on her wondrous journey knowing her daughter is allll she thought she was during her life: a loving, caring responsible daughter who makes her proud.
