Does honeycombing of the lungs mean end stage lung disease?

Asked by stormy  |  Dec 21, 2011

My dad has thyroid cancer. And his ct scan report said that he has honeycombing of the lung or lungs. Also, it said that he has compressive atelectasis with pleural effusion. And said that he has subpleural interstitial disease of the lung apices. He also has copd. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I am not a doctor, but my guess is that the cancer has metastasized to the lung causing reduced lung capacity, which would restrict his air flow. I am sorry, but I am not qualified to say if your father is in an end stage. However, again, my guess would be that his prognosis is not good. You should really spend some time with his Doctor and have all your questions answered and what possible options you may have for care in the future.
