Carol Bradley Bursack, Jul 27, 2011

Over the span of two decades author, columnist and speaker Carol Bradley Bursack cared for a neighbor and six elderly family members. Because of this experience, Bradley Bursack created a portable support group, the book "Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories."

I'd have her see a doctor. Medications could be causing this, but so could gall bladder problems or other health issues. Diarrhea this severe could lead to dehydration, so it's not just about the mess and inconvenience. She may have a significant health issue going on. For loose stools, food changes can help, but for something this significant, she should be seen by a doctor.
We're with you on this,
Carol

I always try grilled cheese or mac & cheese. Ask Dr. if a shot of Pepto is OK w/Meds.Maybe give it to her at bedtime. Just don't over do it. Then you'll have a worse problem w/constipation. My MIL doesn't know when she has to go either and sometimes is very embarrased when company is over. Of course, everyone understands, but she is just mortified. I try to stay away fr fresh fruit, salad or fruit juice the day B4 company is coming or if she has an outing or Dr. appt. Good Luck and hang in there!!

Yogurt, it has natural enzymes in it that help control diarrhea. Try the plain if she'll eat it. The brand Activia is also a good choice. Yes some meds have diarrhea as a side effect so you should check this out with her doc too.
