I am mom's sole caretaker and am feeling the need to reach out and accept whatever services may be available to her to give me a break and not feel the guilt. I have taken her to a day program occasionally. My health is being affected and added stress is becoming overwhelming. I need to let go of the guilt feelings. Where do I go or call to seek services that are available to her and I both?

I would also ask at her next doctor's appointment. The stress can kill you, as it did in my sister's case. My mom is very happy and healthy (now) at the local NH. I would not have believed it, if I was not personally involved.

So, having both my 91 YO mother in law and my mother, in different facilities - I want to stress that not all facilities are bad. We only hear about those that are. But, if you were to die suddenly where would your mom end up? I think you need to make that happen, now.

Good luck - and make your own plans for old age, now. Because no one else wants to.

First place to start is contact your local council on aging.... if you live in the States, go to the website link below.... click on your State.... now click on the city/county. The agency should be able to direct you about what is available in your area.
