Give a Hug
Jan 31, 2012
Wish I knew the answer to this one. To save my sanity - my sweet hubby stays home with mom about twice a year and I go visit a girl friend (in same state) and we shop, go to the movies, eat out and NEVER mention my MIL for 2-3 days. It is really hard to get a break - as you well know.
Seems like most caregivers get $15-$20 an hour - depending on the level of care required. :0( Not many of us can handle that very often. My kids will spell us off for a day or two once in a while (they all work and have their own lives). But, we no longer have any spontaneity and definitely cannot take advantage of any 'last minute' deals for travel :0(
We have been unsuccessful at getting siblings to help. ONE finally did look after mom for a week (5 days actually) recently - but it was my job to navigate the airport with her to/from his home - so my 'week' of respite turned into 5 days :0( 5 glorious days. Not nearly long enough :0)
