Can the facility charge for days my Dad was in the hospital?

I just hope they aren't crazy enough to bill by the day, which would end of being more than what would have been due for the whole month if he hadn't had to go through anything. Their rent is based on their Social Security, they are not private pay.

Was the assisted living complex and nursing home part of the same community? If so they may not have charged for the time being that your dad or his insurance were paying already for the nursing home.

I am assuming they were charging to hold the bed while he was in the hospital. However, does the assisted living charge a room rate or a per person rate? If they charge a flat room rate for him and your mom I would expect the price would be the same either way.

I agree reading the contract and looking at the section for holding a room would be prudent.

Read the admission documents. You pay unless you leave with 30 days advance notice, and you vacate the room.

Actually he and mom both shared an apartment in an assisted living complex. The complex are not charging for any days he was at the nursing home, but once he went into the hospital they began charging again. Doesn't make sense to me where he was at, if they don't charge for one, how can they charge for the other. Thanks

If they are holding his room, they will charge for it. My father was in and out of the nursing home on the average of every 10 days due to his blood pressure failing every time he had dialysis - he'd be whisked off to the ER directly from dialysis, and his bed in the nursing home would go to someone else, because we couldn't afford to pay to hold his room - and Medicaid wouldn't pay it either. So he was in a different room every time he returned to the nursing home. Might be the same situation there.
