Most IL's evaluate the new tenant, and I doubt she would pass that. They also require caregivers to have a contract and some sort of license or certification proving they are in fact a caregiver. Finally, your income is a factor in subsidized housing. Plus if you are working outside the home you are really not a caregiver, just a roommate.
I noticed on your profile that your Mom is living in a nursing home due to Alzheimer's/Dementia. You mention an independent community, does that mean apartments where one can rent or buy, but one needs to be *independent*. How would your mother qualify as being *independent* if she is currently living in a nursing home?
Please note that Alzheimer's/Dementia doesn't get better, it doesn't stay the same, it only gets worse. There will be a time where your Mom will need 3 caregivers to help her 24 hours a day, every single day. Will she be able to afford to pay for those 2 extra caregivers, each working an 8-hour shift with you working the 1st shift, or 2nd shift, or night shift?
Will you be able to afford for yourself not having a paycheck, not having work paid health insurance, not having paid vacation days or sick days off, for the next decade? This is something you will need to take into consideration when you become a full-time live-in caregiver.
If you are able to move into an independent living facility, what if the facility decides that your Mom can no longer live there because she needs more care than what is offered by the community, even with you as her caregiver?
