When my mother-in-law lived alone, we set her up with a medical alert necklace. It worked great too, when she fell and broke her hip. She actually remembered to push the button, and they called me first as preplanned. She has one of those necklace's not at her asst living place too.

A couple of yrs ago, I ordered a system and service for my mom. It had the necklace, which is waterproof so she could wear it in the shower. At first she didn't always wear it, then one time she fell in the middle of the night, hit her head, finally dragged herself to the phone, called 911 because she couldn't remember my #. After that episode, she never took the necklace off.
My mom has the monitor/necklace, the contract is in my name and after mom legally disowned me recently, I can't get her to return the unit. I'm probably the only person on this site who has gone through this mess but I'd like to alert others to be careful about getting stuff for your parent if the parent does not have mental problems. I think if I tell her until she gets the service in her name, I'm still the emergency contact, it might push her to make a move.
Live and learn, I always say.
