What qualifications do my in-laws have to meet to qualify for Medicaid?

Medicaid qualification can very significantly by state. The best money that you will spend on this issue is for an hour or two consult from an attorney who specializes in Elder Law, specifically medicaid eligibility. The county know the rules but they do not have your best financial interests in mind.

Even if you want to go directly to Medicaide you also might think about an elder lawyer the people answering the phone with medicare and medicaide do not always give you the right answers.

The link in that article Carol sent is a good one...have you tried going to www.medicade.com to see if this brings you further information? Lastly, there may be a local office you can contact in your hometown///as well as senior services..

Your parents may actually qualify for Medicare if they're old enough. Plus there are other state and federal programs available. Check http://www.govbenefits.gov and http://www.benefitscheckup.org. The first has an anonymous questionnaire which will point you to programs they may qualify for and the agencies to contact to get the ball rolling. The second site is from the National Council on Aging.

A call to your local Area Agency on Aging (http://www.eldercare.gov) might also be in order to help you find a benefits specialist.
