Why did my father’s prescription cost go up?

sounds like medicare's doughnut hole kicked in. This is the period of time where you are responsible for paying the full retail cost of RX app $3850 (annually) before Medicare covers it again. For our parents, based on their medicines they are covered for 9 months before we have to pay full price for the ones that don't have a generic equivalent like Namenda and Advair. Check http://www.aarp.org/healthcoverage/medigap/

You can find discount cards if you don't have supplemental insurance for him or do what we do, we just pay for half of the prescriptions at a time....like 15 days worth.
