Mom's nursing home announced they have Electronic Health Records.(EHR) I've been receiving paper copies. Can I now receive them as EHR?

I believe all healthcare fcilities will be mandated to have electronic records as of sometime in 2015. In our system you have to register with user name and password to acess them. We can then see test and proceedure results. We can request prescriptions which will be sent electronically to our pharmacy. Send messages and questions to any Dr we see. Appointment are also listed and reminders sent via email. it is quite convenient and I believe will be connected nationwide in the future which some people may not like. it can be life saving in an emergency but allows too many people in my view to view it. However snoopers can find a way into anything these days so I don't fret about it. I don't know how much information the N/H gives you but if it is a long report that you will not longer recieve stick with the paper.

Mom's MD has electronic records, but they are woefully late in getting posted on line, nor do they include anything but labs/tests. If I were you, I would keep getting the hard copies from them. You want the daily logs for meds, assistance given and activities and those won't be on line.

They should be able to send the records to you via email attachment. It would be nothing more than point and click for them. If they say they can't start asking what program they are using and start your research on them sending the records electronically. Just asking the question may rattle their cage and make them do it. Even though they are going "electronic" they have NO excuse to go old school and print out a copy to snail mail you. If they truly want to save time they will email them to you. If they just want to shut you down then they will lie. They do not get that option legally. You and your mother have rights that they can not deny. You sound like a very with it daughter, so don't let them pull any moves of denying you access to records. If they do start the phone calls to the authorities. If they are doing it to you, they are doing it to others that are letting them get away with it not knowing their rights.
