Yes we have used baby food (toddler variety) for my mom when she was still able to chew. We had mixed results with it. We did use the organic baby food and some of the 'mixed meals' were a hit others not so much. We did have to add some spices like salt....I know, but she has always had low blood pressure and the doctor approved it, to make it more palatable. I think it worked about 6 months for her. Then we switched to soups, especially chowders and creamed soups and pureed them for her. We used to be able to feed her soft fruit also which she liked very much (canned pears etc) also mashed up. Now she is exclusively on a thickened liquid diet as she cannot really chew or open her mouth very much. My dad has become very good at making smoothies for her using organic Greek yogurt as the base. We are now feeding her with a syringe so the food needs to be really smooth for her to swallow, but they do taste great. Good luck trying the baby food, it may work for you.

If you already have a blender, just use a standard mouth PINT canning jar instead of the 2qt jug that came with the blender.
works just as good as the bullet blender with no additional investment.
Plus you can put a lid on and put it in the fridge.

They have "pouches" now with both mixed fruits and veggies and just fruits. Packaging doesn't really look like baby food containers, if that is the concern. There are several all organic brands so you aren't feeding junk food.

My mom is on more of a minced diet than pureed, but I do admit that the planning needed to make sure everything is edible for her has made me consider the idea of using baby food! Fortunately I discovered meals on wheels in my area has modified frozen meals available for purchase and I find them very helpful to have on hand when I just don't have time or feel like preparing a meal suitable for her. I also invested in a stick blender and it is wonderful for pureeing smoothies, soups, sauces etc. Baby food would be pretty bland, but could certainly supplement her diet, especially the meats which are pretty hard to get smooth enough in a blender. I think investing in something like a magic bullet or ninja blender and offering variations of your own meals would be much more appreciated by your mom.
