Medicaid has some programs, but you will have to go through your local social services or whomever you work with on Medicaid. Benefits are Federally funded but State run, so there are differences.

Good luck,

You have to be very carefull when my husband was on medicare and we were getting very little help with his care some of the aides and nurses said if we had medicaide we would get all the help we needed but that is not true so when someone tells you something you really need to check it out. We were also told we could use Paratransite to take him places for doc visits etc. but when I called Office for the Aging they said we did not qualify because we lived 1/4 of a mile too much from the bus line-we were also told we could get low cost aides that also was not true-it is too bad people tell you things they are not educated on instead saying they are not sure and will get you the answer,

Contact an agency in your area and they will take it from there. My husband was qualified for medicaid and they handle his bills for adult day care, home health aides 7 days a week and transportation to and from daycare and for medical appointments. The key is getting a decent home health aide!

I checked on this a couple of weeks ago. Medicaid has a program called Cash and Counseling. Depending on how much they would allow for in home care (visiting nurses, aides, housecleaning, etc) they can pay the patient/parent directly and parent can pay you, the caregiver. Only thing is they only have it in 12 states. Unfortunatly, my state, Oklahoma is not one of them. I just got on the computer & did a search for Medicaid Cash & Couseling and go from there. There are some agencies that can help. Just takes some digging. I left my job and am taking care of my mother & I know it certaining feels like you should get paid. Good luck!

My mother gets help from Elder Care and they pay for 4 hour for a bather, 2 hours housecleaning, and 4 hours companion (the companion can only sit, read and talk with my mother). Elder Care Outsourced services to a private health care business. This business wants me get a perscription from the doctor that says she needs 7 days of services and they will get mother qualified through a program called Keypo (not sure of the spelling). I do not want to leave the umbella of elder care. Has anyone experienced this method of getting additional services from Medicare/medicaid. Thank you
