Medicaid is the federal health insurance program that the social worker is referring to .... and Medicaid pays for care of the person needs to be placed in a nursing home (requires NURSING care as you parent seems to need) .... so this is what happens ... y ou have to find a nursing home that has medicaid beds ... call them and ask for their assistance/knowledge/guidance ... your loved one cannot have any more than 1600.00 in their checking account (or maybe a little more now,, not sure) ... the application is long, and it takes awhile because they do a five-year look back of income and outgo (they are trying to make sure someone didn't have the money to pay for thenursing home and gave it all away to kids and friends so they would qualify for Medicaid, e.g.) .... so if you loved one is indigent and the doctor says she needs 24-hr nursing home type care, then apply for Medicaid now as it takes awhile .... in the meantime, call nursing homes and get as much information as you can about Medicaid .... once she gets Medicaid, they will pay the nursing home in full, and she will get about 50.00 of her social s ecurity check as they take the rest ... that 50.00 is what she will have for incidentals ... blessings upon you!
