She could see that my mom could not do anything by herself and required assistance for everything (feeding, cooking, going to the bathroom, baths). She said that she could see initially that my mom would quality for 24 hour care. She said the next step is that she will send in some final paperwork for my mom's doctors to sign so that they can also confirm diagnosis, medications, long term improvement (none). Once that paperwork is completed, the Social Worker is supposed to contact me to let me know how much care my mom is qualified to receive. She said that 80 hours a week at $9.50 (or $9.00) an hours was probably what my mom will qualify for. We will take any help we can get at this point because we are really financially burdened. I signed up with Medi-Cal to be one of my mom's full time caregivers so I will be on their records for the payroll.
I am persistent, I will probably give the Social Worker a call today. If you don't call these people at least twice a week -- you are liable to fall off the map. I called the Medi-Cal people at least 3 times a week because they never answered the phone. I left messages repeating my name, case number, phone number.
Ha ha...
Now the Medi-Cal card mom received: How to apply this card.
I spoke with my mom's doctor's administrator -- She said when I take my mom to the doctor to submit everything the same in the following order:
Primary: Medicare
Secondary: Mom's private Insurance card
Third: Medi-Cal card
This is the order that the doctor's office will submit the claims. She says do not submit the Medi-Cal first for payment. Just let your doctor's office administrators/nurses know that you want to add the Medi-Cal card to pick up any residual left by whatever Medicare and the private insurer doesn't pick up.
We do have to pay down $600.00 or so that my mom had in her account. That might be already paid down because of a number of doctor's bills that I paid in the past 2 months were well over $600.00.
Take Care, I'll keep you posted -- be persistent! They will remember you if you keep calling them back even to leave a message on their phone.
