Died twice on the table! I was and still am uninsured, actually 10months to the day w/o insurance after paying for forty years highest coverage and highest premiums. Anyway, I was unemployed, had lost my home, my car is ten years old, only income was $100bucks a month from a pension from an airline that went belly up in 91, I had moved into a trailer that is owned by family, they have provided the roof and utilities for me since. I applied and was accepted for the food stamp program, however was denied Medicaid. I am 57, single, Caucasian female.
With this all being said, I have been denied appointments to the Heart Doc that saved my life, he said, as he strut into my hospital room, however his office refuses to set me any appointments until the bill is paid in full, of which is over 8k. I was accepted into a scholarship through the hospital and they paid for my rehab phase two, however the doctor's office manager stated to me that they did not do 'Charity'/indigent care! It took two months after for the office to get me into the Bristol Meyers program for Plavix. The medications for which I am taking seems to be affecting my teeth now, as I have had a couple to break off and one to abscess. I was referred to the free clinic, however they would not touch be until I have a blood clotting test, as it seems the meds make me a free bleeder now. However the free clinic dentist state that when I did have the surgery he would also pull the tooth next to it, although he stated there is no infection, however because it was a tooth with a root canal that it probably would flare up at some point, so he would just go ahead a pull it! I freaked because there was nothing wrong with that tooth! Never the less, I did not even receive any antibiotic for the infection of the tooth! I am not above going to a free clinic, however I must say my experience did not leave me with feeling very confident.
If I had been granted Medicaid, as I find that there are many that are receiving this benefit, to which have nothing compared to me, and I do not for the life of me understand why I was denied this benefit that I have paid for over 40 years of working! It is my money! I find this position that I am currently in, unable to obtain continued care is unacceptable in this country and I am at my wits end with the rejection! So to spend down, I can't spend down any further than I am...I am at the bottom, can't get down any further than indigent! Anyone have any ideas, please forward to me! Sorry to sound pity party, I am not on one, just scared to death as to how my life is going to end!
