Rebecca,

To start, I would contact your mother's primary care doctor immediately who, after a thorough examination, would make their recommendation and connect you with a social worker and/or alocohol rehab facility for seniors.

If your mother does not have a primary care doctor at this time, there are many elder care services in your area that could help you and your mother going forward. In order not to overwhelm you any further, I did a quick internet search for services in the Atlanta area and recommend that you check out the following comprehensive site: Medline Plus Go Local: Services for Seniors' Health in Elbert County Georgia.

I do hope this is a helpful first step for you. Your mother is very fortunate to have you as her advocate and reaching out on her behalf. Remember to take good care of yourself along the way and good luck to you and your mother.

Mother is an depressed alcoholic, she is doesn't have a place to live, currently living with my Aunt, my aunt can't deal with her issues. She can't live with me or my siblings, she can't be around our young children. What do I do, where do I start, who do I contact for help?? A doc, social worker?? Do I try to get her into rehab then a nursing home?? Any advice?? She is 73 and been an alcoholic since my father and grandmother passed in '99 and '00. She won't eat, just drinks, then vomits a lot. Currently she isn't able to make it to the bathroom. She doesn't even think the alcohol has anything to do with it. She lays in bed 24 hrs a day, hasn't bathed months. My Aunt swears she isn't going to buy her alcohol any more but finally gives in after my mother begs. I have cut her out of my life to a degree, I call to chat but she won't talk. My Aunt is almost 70 and is asking me to get her out. I feel some obligation since she is my mother and she isn't my Aunt's problem to deal with.....advice?? I know long and overwhelming message....not even sure if this is the right forum but I was desperate so thought I would give it a shot. Thanks. Rebecca, Atlanta, GA
