Mom is suffering severe depression in nursing home

Was wondering if any of you had been through this. My mother is in a nursing home- has been since May, and has suffered several small strokes since then. She has lost the ability to communicate and is horribly depressed- telling the nursing staff that she's going to kill herself. Her doctor wants to put her on hospice and she is already on several mood stabilizing drugs. We've continually tried to take her out of there- to lunch- back home for a few hours, etc..but she refuses all of our efforts to give her even the slightest amount of joy. I'm at a loss as to what to do for her, and I don't want her last few months to be horrible and have her wanting to kill herself...was wondering if any of you had gone through this...thanks!
