Wondering if you have tried to get him involved in the creative arts. There is a film I read about on the Alzheimer's Reading Room, and then got on DVD. It's called "i Remember Better When I Paint" and shows how the creative ares help both those with AD and their caregivers. It is a powerful, inspiring, mind-changing film. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's no wonder you are sad, what a terrible thing to have to go through, especially with a spouse. Explaining to him that he has Alzheimer's was probably alright though, depending on his understanding of what that exactly is. As far as telling him it'll 'be okay' what else are you supposed to tell him? 'I love you honey, but eventually you'll completely lose your marbles and not know who I am?' NOT! So what you said about it being okay, I personally don't see a problem with that. Like I said, depending on his understanding of what this disease acts like, he already knew when you said the word 'alzheimers'. Maybe it's time now, before he's changed, to talk about any future plans he had in mind for his family/kids/you... I'm truly sorry for your loss.
